PlainVIN shows public government records for education. Please read these limits before you rely on anything here.
- Recalls are listed by model year, not checked against your VIN. A campaign listed for a model year may not cover every car of that year, and we can’t see whether a specific car was repaired. Check your VIN on NHTSA’s recall lookup or ask a dealer.
- Complaints are unverified owner reports. They are not NHTSA findings, and counts are not failure rates.
- Crash-test ratings apply to the tested version and should be compared fairly (see safety ratings).
- Fuel-economy figures are EPA lab estimates and fuel costs are estimates using weekly average prices; your results will vary.
- Decoder results come from NHTSA’s vPIC service. Blank fields mean NHTSA has no data, not that the vehicle lacks the feature.
- Not professional advice. Nothing on PlainVIN replaces a pre-purchase inspection, your dealer, a mechanic or legal advice.
- Independent. PlainVIN isn’t affiliated with NHTSA, the US Department of Transportation, the EPA, the EIA or any automaker.
