Accessibility

Updated Oct 6, 2026

We want PlainVIN to work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or high contrast. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we do

  • Text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed for readers with low vision, with 18 px body text.
  • Colors meet WCAG contrast ratios in both the light and dark themes, and meaning is never shown by color alone.
  • Charts have text descriptions for screen readers, and the main data charts can be switched to a table.
  • All controls work with a keyboard and show a visible focus outline, and tap targets meet the WCAG 2.2 minimum size.
  • Animations respect your device’s “reduce motion” setting.
  • Every page except My Garage works without JavaScript; tools fall back to ordinary forms.

Known limitations

  • Some government text we show word for word, such as recall summaries, is written in technical language we can’t change. We add plain-English labels alongside it.
